Not Really Open for Business

It has been nearly a year since Gov. Joe Manchin declared that West Virginia is open for business. He unveiled new signs to be displayed on the highways as motorists entered the state telling them that the state is taking a new approach when it comes to business. I assume, with his name on the signs as well, he has appointed himself to the position of CEO. I am not too sure who comprises the board of directors of this company but whomever they are, they need to start looking after their interests or we can kiss this state goodbye.

Yes, the governor can put up his ridiculous looking signs if he wants, but where is the real change that needs to take place? It is not unheard of to see the vacant shops around any town you pass through in West Virginia. In fact in any city here, it is actually the norm to see the disappearance of stores.

Gambling and Prostitution?

November 19, 2006

There is a lot of information being presented to the citizen of Hancock County on proposed Table gambling for West Virginia.  There have even been forums held to present the information to the citizens.  Now there is an "alterative life style" Business in Weirton.  Where does this all stop?  Do we really want to be known for these kinds of lives?  We believe the people of this County and State are greater than this.  We do not need these evils for our people or our children to prosper.  If you agree (or disagree) please post your comments for us all to share.

Only the uneducated in the military?

November 5, 2006

Can you believe Senator John Kerry's remarks this week about the military?  We believe the men and women in are military are the best trained and most highly educated military personal in the world.  Many have college degrees.  Some even have doctorates.  Many positions in the modern military require a college degree.  Certainly the men and women graduating for West Point and Annapolis have an education that ranks them with graduates from Harvard and Yale!  I guess Senators do not have to have the same education though.
